Laurene Simms of Deaf Women of Color leads the “Climbing the Avalanche” documentary project with funding from Deafhood Foundation.

Deafhood Foundation gives an annual grant to innovative projects led by Deaf people with their sponsoring Deaf-run non-profit organizations. The grants are given in the areas of arts, media, education, activism and research.

The research aspect would focus on those potential areas: language, economics, mental health, culture, science, and medicine all through the Deafhood lens. The Foundation also funds Deafhood Media Challenge where we invite innovative filmmaking efforts from the Deaf community.

Please see a list of our previous grantees which have included $10,000 funding to Deaf Women of Color’s “Climbing the Avalanche” documentary project, a series of Epic Jams by Deaf Spotlight, and others.
